Lagos-Ibadan Expressway: Two dead, eight wounded at clash on Eid-al-Fitr day

Two persons were reported dead on Eid-al-Fitri Day in different collisions on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in Ogun State.

Mr Clement Oladele, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Ogun, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria in Abeokuta on Wednesday.

Oladele attested that the first collision broke out around 4:52 am on the  Lagos – Ibadan Expressway at AP petrol station at Sagamu.

The FRSC boss said that the clash, which involved an Iveco truck identified as KTU 565 XW, was as a result of speeding which led to a loss of control.

 The accident involved three male adults, as two persons sustained wounds, one person passed on, he added.

Oladele explained that the wounded and the body were transported to Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital,  Sagamu.

He stated that the second collision broke out about 3:54pm on the same expressway at Ogumankin and it involved a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number LND 626 XR .

He said that the accident was caused by reckless driving and wrongful overtaking, adding that the bus hit the barrier and somersaulted.

The FRSC boss explained that the accident involved 17 persons, six males, eight females, and three  children.

Six persons, he said, were wounded while one female adult passed on in the collision.

He said that the wounded victims were transported to Idera Hospital, Sagamu, while the body of the dead victim was deposited at FOS Morgue, Ipara.

Oladele advised motorists to drive cautiously, especially on the Lagos – Ibadan Expressway, which is currently undergoing rehabilitation.

“Motorists should therefore expect traffic to build up on the Lagos – Ibadan expressway and other corridors following the celebration of the Eid-el-Fitri and with several motorists returning back to resume work,” he said.
