The European Union inaugurated its second-largest embassy in Nairobi, capital of Kenya.

The embassy was formally inaugurated by EU foreign policy Chief Federica Mogherini who held a joint news conference with Kenyan Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary, Monica Juma.

The foreign policy Chief said the opening of the new embassy is to show the essentiality of Kenya’s efficacy as a regional axis and gateway to East and Central Africa.

Mogherini thereby showed the fulfilment in inaugurating the embassy in Nairobi, of which it is not coincidence.

Mogherini said while speaking to the local media: “We see Kenya as not only a gateway to the region and to Africa but also as an important hub. I was pleased to inaugurate our new EU embassy here in Nairobi; it is the second largest in the world and this is not by coincidence.”

She noted that during her meeting with Juma, as they discussed trade, blue economy and regional security matters.

Mogherini got to Nairobi after a visit to Mogadishu, Somalia.
