A 300 level student of the Department of Microbiology, Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife, named Omotola Akorede Kayode had on Friday suddenly collapsed and died on the institution's football field. 

A release by the OAU Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, stated that the student was playing football with his colleagues when he suddenly slumped.

According to the PRO, the deceased was dashed to OAU’s Health Centre afterwards where he was declared dead on getting there.

Olarewaju added that all efforts to make him regain consciousness proved fruitless.

He thereby sympathized with the concerned, being a great loss to the institution. 

“The management hereby commiserate with the parents, family, classmates, colleagues and the entire University Community over this irreparable loss.

”And may the good Lord grants us all the fortitude to bear the loss," the PRO added.
