Some parts of the largest shopping centre in the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi, caved in during the hours of day, halting business activities, The Chronicle has gathered.

Pictures circulating on social media show the ceiling of the about two-and-half-years old facility, which is owned by a multinational South African firm, Shop Rite, on ground.

Few months ago, a similar incident was recorded in the national capital, Accra, when a section of the ceiling of the Achimota Mall caved in, raising issues about the quality of the construction work.

Confirming the incident to news correspondents, the Ashanti Regional Co-ordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Kwabena Senkyire, revealed that it happened sometime at about 07:30 this morning.

Senkyire confirmed that parts of the ceiling caved in, but there wasn’t any casualty, he however stated that NADMO had been there and cleared the area.
