Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has witnessed significant transformation over the past decade. This transformation has impacted on the way government is run, how business is administered and even how people live their lives. Without doubt, the advent of ICT has brought with it tangible development in different facet of human existence.

African economies need to move with the times by prioritising the adoption of ICT to take full delivery of the benefits that embracing digital transformation strategies offer. Technology has helped people develop innovative solutions to address societal problems. Already the benefits of ICT is already there for all to see, in commerce for instance a lot of online stores have since sprang up where one can simply place an order for commodities and have them delivered. This breakthrough alone has helped employ millions of young people across Africa. Banking is now less stressful; the days of long queues in banking halls are long gone, as one can easily carry out transactions at the comfort of their homes and offices using codes or mobile apps on their mobile devices.

In a similar vein, a lot of work-from-home jobs are now available on the internet and many are now making cool and legal income through this avenue with the added luxury of having control over their working hours. Difficulty in getting admission into higher institutions is no longer an excuse to getting quality education as there are several online courses to choose from with quality study materials and adequate supervision too. The progresses that have been recorded with the aid of technology are endless.

There would not be a better time to combine human ingenuity with technological innovation to further develop Africa. Conscious efforts must be made to better the lives of not just the tech-savvy youth core of the African population but also the poor and less privileged among us.

The gains of technology should also be extended to a broader spectrum of human existence like security for instance. Security challenge is a serious one for many countries in Africa, we can improve on our security networks with improved technology to help combat insecurity and criminality in all forms. The same can be said of our infrastructures. These areas and several others can be improved greatly if we adopt improved technology in addressing the deficits.

Conscious efforts should also be made to encourage innovations in ICT in Africa in our schools. The school curriculum should be revisited to cater for our present day needs and bridging the gap in ICT with the more advanced nations of the world.
