The Acting Executive Secretary of the African Academy of Languages, ACALAN, Dr. Lang Fafa has urged the working structures in the member states to brace up for tasks ahead.

He made the call at the just concluded Workshop for Cartographers and Demographers for the Linguistic Atlas of Africa in Abidjan last week.

"We are all ACALAN, our working structures are in the member states of the African Union; they are national structures identified by the Ministries of Culture and/or Education. They are departments, divisions, government institutions in our member states and they are therefore part of ACALAN. Any time we need to do something, implement a project, we turn to these government departments and institutions to do our work. It is only when we cannot find the expertise in our government institutions or departments that we turn to the private sector," he said.

He added that ACALAN is a specialised institution that belongs to the African Union, which belongs to the African Union member states. He therefore enjoined government institutions in the member states to be ready when called upon for their services as it would be service to their countries and by extension the African Union.
