The Northern Youth Leaders Forum (NYLF) on Tuesday rejected the choice of former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi as the running-mate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in the 2019 election.
Comrade Elliot Afyo, NYLF National Chairman who spoke with journalists on Tuesday in Abeokuta, Ogun State made this known.
Afyo said picking Obi as earlier rejected by the South East Governors may amount to a political suicide.
He also pointed out that Obi is seen as “anti-North” considering “the way he treated the northers when he was Governor of Anambra state,” and as such, he “doesn’t enjoy the support about 70 percent of monarchs and traditional rulers from the North.”
While emphasising that the group has nothing against Atiku’s bid, Afyo said the former Vice President cannot ignore hurdles pose against Obi’s choice by those major party stakeholders.
In view of the hues and cries over Obi in South East, he asked Atiku to drop him and pick either Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson or Rivers Counterpart, Nyesom Wike, who are both from South-South region, as the running mate
Atiku’s failure to change his mind over Obi may result into victory for President Muhammadu Buhari, the NYLF Chairman said.
