Unilorin invents bullet-proof gadgets

The Vice Chancellor, University of Ilorin, Professor Sulyman Abdulkareem Age, says the university has invented bullet-proof gadgets which has been tested and accepted by the Nigerian Army.

Prof. Sulyman made this known while briefing journalists on his administration';s activities in the last one year as well as the programmes of event for the 34th convocation ceremony of the university.

The Vice Chancellor noted however that the sensitive nature of the security gadget, would not allow the University be able to mass produce the device.

“We have been able to sign an MoU with the Nigerian Army on the invention and development of polymer composite for strategic and protective defence. In concrete terms, we have invented a bullet-proof gadget, which has been tested and accepted by the Nigerian Army.

“With this, we are already improving our impact on the world and on our immediate society and this is a gratifying achievement that will ultimately propel the university to the Zenith of global recognition and reputation we desires. ” he said.

He added that in its bid to provide knowledge that can change the world, the university had proposed two innovative African Centers of Excellence with one on Advanced Electrical Power Engineering and Green Energy Research (ARPEGER) and the other on setting up of West African Centre for Infectious Disease and Epidemiological Surveillance both of which would be funded by the World Bank.

He also revealed that the university was on the verge of signing an MoU with the Central Bank on the exploration or maximization of the land resources for agricultural entrepreneurship.

He added that a total of 12, 108 students comprising 10,330 of first degree/diplomas and 1,778 of higher degrees/post graduate diplomas would partake in the convocation on Tuesday, next week during the grand finale of the convocation programme.
