ACALAN set to harmonize the writing systems of vehicular cross border languages

The African Academy of Languages is set to organise a workshop on harmonization of the writing systems of the Beti-Fang, Kikongo and Lingala vehicular, cross-border languages spoken mainly in Central Africa.

The workshop is expected to hold in Brazzaville from 17th to 19th October in collaboration with the Minister of Culture and Arts.

The workshop among other things aims at harmonizing differences in orthographic practices, develop a standardize form of writing for each of the languages and to set Harmonized rules of grammar.

Those expected at the workshop are members of the Beti-Fang, Kikongo and Lingala Vehicular Cross-border Language Commissions; ACALAN's National Structures from Countries in which the languages concerned are spoken; Staff of the Secretariat; representatives of the Assembly of Academicians of ACALAN from the region; representatives of the Ministries of Culture and Education of the Republic of Congo, members of the civil societies; and representatives of UNESCO/OIF/SIL

International.
