Operation Safe Haven, the multi-security taskforce in charge of internal security in Plateau and parts of Bauchi and Southern Kaduna states on Wednesday laid to rest three soldiers killed in the violence that erupted in Barkin Ladi local government area of Plateau State in early September.

The three soldiers, all personnel of the Special Operations Forces were part of those updeployed by the Defence Headquarters to boost the capabilities of Operation Safe Haven two days after the attack that claimed over 200 lives in Plateau’s troubled Barkin Ladi in June.

However, another round of killings in September 6th had claimed CPL Effiong Mbuotidem, CPL Isah Ojaghale and LCPL Kingsley Aloue who were buried today at the Maxwell Khobe Military Cemetery at 3 Division Headquarters, Rukuba Jos.

Major General Augustine Agundu, Operation Safe Haven Commander said the incident of 6 September 2018 which led to the death of the soldiers was avoidable and stressed that the “gallant soldiers had battled the armed militias in order to save the communities that were under attack.”

He said, “the DHQ Special Force Team, OPSH and the Armed Forces of Nigeria have lost one of its fearless Special Force soldiers that exhibited courage and steadfastness even unto death and in the search for peace on the Plateau.”
