Ahead of the 2019 general elections, the Bishop of Diocese of Owo, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Rev. Stephen Fagbemi, has urged Nigerians to vote for leaders that will change the fortune of the country, saying the current government in the country is not living up to the expectations of the people, especially in the areas of security and job creation.

The bishop made this known at the thanksgiving service for the third session of the 12th Synod of the diocese, held at St. Patrick’s Anglican Church, Ijebu Owo, that the current government is not listening to the pains and yearnings of the citizens, hence the need to vote for leaders that would put the interest of the people first.

He said, “My advice is that Nigerians should pray for a peaceful election. They should actually go out and vote for people who they believe can represent them; people who genuinely understand their problems and are determined to find solutions to them.

“Nigeria is on the brink of collapse and we pray God to deliver us because many things are happening and the government is not listening to us.  We need a government that listens and so Nigerians should vote for a listening government.”

Fagbemi, however, said there is hope for the country contrary to some prophesies that had predicted doom.

He added, “There is a lot of hopelessness in Nigeria. Government is not doing well or caring for the people.

We are our own government; we look after ourselves, provide our own security, electricity, water, and so we can consider that there is no hope. God will give us victory and in spite of all the challenges, if we follow God’s will and His plans for our lives, we will surely get to the promised land.”
