Former Super Eagles captain, Nwankwo Kanu, has been discharged from hospital after the Nigeria Football and UNICEF Football Ambassador went through a minor corrective heart surgery at Cleveland Hospital, United States of America.

Papilo, as he is fondly called by his admirers, had been recuperating at the hospital since he was discharged from the Intensive Care Unit, ICU, of the hospital.

"Kanu has been discharged from the hospital", confirms Pastor Onyebuchi Abia, Coordinator of the Kanu Heart Foundation, KHF, a non-governmental organization, NGO set up by the former Arsenal of London striker to cater for people with heart related ailments.

"He was discharged at the weekend and he is expected back in the country in the coming days. He will be on hand during the Greenspring Football Talents Clinics scheduled for early April", Abia added.

He also conveyed Kanu's appreciation to Nigerians who backed him with their prayers and support during his moment of trial.

"We've been speaking since then and he has never stopped to express happiness with the way Nigerians showed concern for his health.

"He was also appreciative of their prayers which he noted helped in no small way in speeding his recovery", Abia quoted Kanu to have said.
