In his bid to continue to sustain both security and industrial harmony in Abia State, the government of Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has brokered a truce with striking teachers in the state who had earlier embarked on an industrial action to press home their demands.

In a statement released by the State’s commissioner for information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, members of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, suspended their three-week old strike following “the successful intervention and negotiations between the leaders of the Union and officials of Abia State Government led by the Deputy Governor, Rt Hon. Sir Ude Oko Chukwu.

“Classes are expected to resume fully on Monday, May 14, 2018, in primary and secondary schools in the state.

“The state government wishes to express appreciation to teachers in the state for their support and understanding and implores them to work extra hard to ensure that our children recover lost grounds occasioned by the industrial action.

“Governor Ikpeazu’s administration will continue to work hard to ensure the evolution of a sustainable model that will guarantee that our great teachers receive their wages as and when due”, the statement concluded.

It would be recalled that the state has maintained first position back to back in the last three years in WASCE under Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.

In the same vein, lecturers of Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, are expected to resume work on Monday, May 14, 2018.

In a release by the acting Registrar, Chief Mrs C. A. Nwabughuogu, staffs are expected to be at their duty posts from that day.

Presenting the vehicles to DIG Research and Development, Mr. Valentine Ntomchukwu in Government House, Umuahia, Governor Ikpeazu also promised to ensure the completion of the headquarters of the Zone 9 Command in Umuahia as soon as possible.

Responding, DIG Ntomchukwu, who was accompanied by the AIG in charge of Zone 9 Umuahia, Mr. H.H Karma and the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Anthony Ogbizi, commended the governor for his continuous support to the Police, and thanked him for assisting in the building of Zone 9 headquarters in Umuahia.
