Ex-athletes under the umbrella Nigerian Athletics Masters (NAM) have moved to stop death among retired and active athletes in the country.

The body in partnership with the Lagos State Government on Tuesday held a symposium at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.

NAM president, Gloria Obajimi, said, “This symposium reminds me of the death of Sunday Bada in athletics; also remember the case of Raymond King, who died not too long ago. So, I felt that we shouldn’t wait until we start losing people or somebody is having one health issue or another before we act. I felt that we needed to have a symposium whereby those that are in nutrition could tell us what to eat and those in psychology tell us about depression, with those in the fitness section too also playing a role. That’s why I brought Enefiok Udo-Obong to tell us about fitness and what we need to do, the percentage of exercise; because it is said that we cannot continue to exercise or compete the same way we did when we were younger.''
