Catholic Bishop at the lunching of the books at St Paul II centre, Uninversity of Ibadan

Catholic Bishops launch books on Family and Life

The Catholic Church has taken another giant stride in the body of Christ to luch a  books on '' on Marriage and Family: The Teachings of the Catholic Church'' and ''A Catechism on Human Life from Conception to Natural Death''  by bishops of the Ibadan Ecclesiastical Province.

 

The launching which took place at the John Paul II Centre, University of Ibadan had in attendance the Archbishop of Ibadan Archdiocese, His Grace Most Rev. Dr Gabriel Leke Abegurin, His Royal Highness Oba Michael Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, the Alake of Egbaland, Dr. [Mrs] Iyabo Olusanmi, bishops of Oyo, Ekiti, Ilorin, Osogbo and Ondo dioceses, prominent academicians and host of other dignitaries.

In her opening remarks, the chairperson of the occasion, Dr. [Mrs] Juliana Iyabo Olusanmi stated that the presentation of the books is an eye opener to issues that bother on marriage and life. The chairperson went further to say that the books are specifically designed to correct moral values in the society which will further preserve the sanctity and dignity of human life.

Dr. Olusanmi also noted that the two books serve as instructional manual and absolute practical guide on human life and marriage in the society.

On his part, the Archbishop of Ibadan Archdiocese, His Grace, Most Rev. Gabriel Leke Abegurin in his welcome address stated that what Nigeria as a nation needs is unity that lies in the strength of oneness . The highly respected cleric who mentioned that Nigerians pay attention to irrelevant things charged everyone present at the occasion to see the books as activators of good radiance to family life and marriage institutions in the country and the world at large.

The book reviewer, Rev. Fr. Michael Banjo who frowned at the rate of abortion in Nigeria challenged everyone to see the two books as corrective measures to curtailing the cases of abortion and the use of contraception by the female gender.

The man of God who described the content of the books as unchanging truth at a time the nation and the world at large are propagating laws and steps that neglect the sanctity and dignity of human life, praised the effort of the authors for publishing such defensive books on life and family.

Rev. Fr Banjo further stated that the books address the controversies and arguments surrounding the attempt to legalise abortion, gay marriage and the use of contraception.

The occasion featured prayers for family, ewi [eulogy of God] presentation as well as special rendition of song by Seat of Wisdom choir.
