Mr Zanna Ibrahim , the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command has called on all political stakeholders to maintain peace and order as nine thousand police personels have been deployed for the January 6th local government chairmanship election, which is to hold simultaneously across the 25 local government areas of delta state in accordance with the timetable approved by the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC).

In a statement released by DSP Andrew Aniamaka, Public Relations Officer Delta State Police Command and made available to CEOAFRICA on Tuesday, the Commissioner of Police pleaded with the public to comply with the restriction order on vehicular movements, as defaulters will be arrested and prosecuted in line with the provisions of the law.

According to the statement, the restriction will be on the day of election from 6am to 3pm, and members of the public are advised to take alternative routes or follow other contingency plans.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) raised an alarm yesterday, accusing opposition party PDP of allegedly hijacking thumb-printed ballots papers and other voting materials. The State Publicity Secretary PDP, Chief Michael Ozuoza quickly denied the allegation and made it clear that the party had been busy campaigning round the 25 local government areas, under the leadership of the State Governor Dr Ifeanyi Okowa.

There have also been reactions trailing Chief Felix Anirah’s defection from APC to PDP barely 24 hours to the local government election.

In reaction to the tussle for power between both parties, CP Zanna Ibrahim advised politicians and their supporters to adhere strictly to the electoral provisions and avoid any uncivilized conduct before, during and after the elections.

He solicited for the support of the public in exposing the peace disrupters and ensuring a hitch-free election.

In collaboration with the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC), the Police Boss assured the public of an honest and transparent conduct of the exercise.

Chatting with newsmen, CP Zanna Ibrahim revealed that Special Forces, Mobile Police, members of the Counter-Terrorism Unit and other security personnel have been strategically placed on standby at violent-prone areas/flashpoints. He also stated that 3,000 men have been mobilized from neighbouring states to support the 6,000 men who will be deployed to the polling stations.
