NIGERIA (Abuja)- President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has been commended for for signing the Same Sex Marriage Prohibition Act by the Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).

This was disclosed in a chat with journalists in Abuja by the National President of the group, Mr. Simeon Dolly, adding that the religion and traditions of Nigeria did not permit that act.

In his words, Mr. Dolly said: “We cannot practise such acts and some of these acts are the root causes of disasters that those foreign countries are faced with.

“When God says a man should marry a woman; when you now say a man should marry a man or a woman should marry a woman, that is an abomination before God.

“Those that are criticising this country, they can say whatever they like, but we must continue to stand on the basis of truth.

“As for us Nigerians, this is the best for us; this is the best gift of year that Jonathan has given the youth.”

Mr. Dolly said the law expressed the wishes of Nigerians and should be commended in its entirety.

President Jonathan recently signed the bill, making the country the 38th in Africa to have laws prosecuting gay persons.
