A member of the House of Representatives, Honourable Ibrahim Aliyu Gebi, on Thursday, declared that the Federal Government lacked the political will and sincerity of purpose to end the crises rocking the North-East geopolitical zone of the country.

This is even as he argued that the elongation of the state of emergency being sought by President Goodluck Jonathan in three states in the zone was uncalled for as nothing had been achieved so far in the last six months of the emergency rule in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states.

Gebi, who represents Bauchi Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, said this while addressing a press conference at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre in Bauchi.

He expressed disappointment over the manner the Federal Government was handling the security problems in the North-East, saying that, “government has not done enough and they are not doing enough to solve the problems.

He said, “The truth is that, whether we like it or not whatever affects the North-East region affects the country. I don’t think we have done enough or we are doing enough and I don’t think the government has the political will to resolve the problem in the North-East region.”

According to him, all was not well in the zone despite the fact that government had spent a lot of money to tackle insecurity in the zone, saying that, “when people are denied social justice, it will not be right to think that all is well and if we assume that all is well then we are wallowing in self deceit.

He called on President Jonathan, as the chief security officer and commander-in-chief of the Nigerian armed forces to come out and tell Nigerians about the security situation of the country for Nigerians to ascertain whether there has been any significant security improvement.

“In my opinion, there is no significant security improvement as far as Bauchi, North-East and Nigeria is concerned,” he declared.
