2015: Southern Forum drums support for Jonathan's second term ambition

The Secretary General of the Southern Forum, Dr Dejo Raimi has called on Nigerians to support President Goodluck Jonathan's second term ambition in the spirit of peace, fair, justice and equity.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with CEOAFRICA in Ibadan on Tuesday, he said that considering his achievements and zone that produces him, "he deserves second term." Raimi, a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) put his support for the second term ambition of Jonathan on three reasons.

 

Despite the security insurgency by Boko Haram in some parts of the country, he said Jonathan had been able to manage the peace and security of lives and property.While noting that there was no Boko Haram when he was campaigning, he said that the insecurity was politically and religiously coloured.He alleged that Boko Haram was being financed by three important politicians "who went on air to say that if a northern is not at the healms of affairs, they will make the country ungovernable.

 

Secondly, he argued that President Jonathan had been able to revive the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) which he noted had been grounded for the past 25 years. With this singular act, the former Secretary to the Oyo State Government said there had been reduction in number of long vehicles plying the roads and number of deaths as a result of road mishaps.

 

In the area of energy, he said that electricity supply had increased considerably and had promised to solve challenges facing the sector once and for all, "if this is done, the man will have no opponent in 2015."

The 88-year-old politician further argued that of all the six geo-political zones in the country, five of them had been able to serve the country to appreciative level apart from South/South which was presenting candidate for the first time.
