At the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna, the Super Eagles of Nigeria proved their superiority again over the Stallions of Burkina Faso in an international friendly match, with the African Champions winning by 4 goals to 1.

It was the repeat of AFCON 2013 Final game where Sunday Mba’s 41st minutes goal handed the trophy to Nigeria. The Burkinabe, who have qualified for the 2014 FIFA World Cup final qualification play-off came with full determination to revenge their AFCON defeat.

Apart from pride that was at stake, a win for either of the side would help to improve their standing on FIFA ranking and help to avoid meeting the likes of Cote D’Ivoire and Ghana in the Play-off.

Nigeria began on a promising note and in the 12th minutes, Brown Ideye opened the floodgates of goals when he pounced on a loose ball resulting from bad error by the Burkinabe defense.

At the 42 minutes of play, Brown Ideye made it 2-0 for Nigeria when John Ogu released a true pass that went between the Burkinabe defense and the Dynamo Kiev striker coolly put it at the back of the net.

The first half ended with the African Champions leading by two goals to nothing courtesy Brown Ideye’s brace.

The second half started just like the first with Nigeria pressurizing again and searching for more goals, and in the 53rd minutes,  Shola Ameobi got the third goal of the night and coincidentally, his first goal since playing for Nigeria. It was a nice combination between Nsofor and Ideye that gave Ameobi the chance of opening his goal account for Nigeria.

The fourth goal of the night was scored by Emmanuel Emenike, who drives in from a nice lay-off orchestrated by Ogenyi Onazi in the 63rd minutes of the encounter.

The Burkinabe got a consolation in the 78th minutes of the game via a cross nodded in to beat Austine Ejide in goal.
