Banditry: Several feared dead, kidnapped in Niger market

Armed gunmen have killed and kidnapped an unconfirmed number of persons in Madaka community, Rafi local government area of Niger State.

CEOAFRICA source gathered the bandits stormed the community’s market in the area at about 3pm on Thursday and opened fire on the people.

Sources from the area stated that the gunmen announced their presence at the market at its peak by shooting sporadically in the air resulting in the death of many people.

It was also learnt that during the attack, the bandits whisked away a number of villagers to an unknown location.

The attack, CEOAFRICA source gathered, occurred barely two days after gunmen invaded Pangu Gari, and killed the district head and four other persons in the area.

When contacted, the state Niger State Commissioner for Homeland Security, Brig Gen. Bello Abdullahi Mohammed (rtd), confirmed the incident.

The C ommissioner also explained that the state government was not resting on its oars but was working along with security agencies on how to end the series of attacks being launched by bandits on farming communities in the state.
