The Senate has endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s sack of Babatunde Irukera as the Chief Executive/Vice Chairman of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).

The approval of the Senate on Wednesday was a sequel to the consideration of the Executive Communication that the Senate do consider the request of President Bola Tinubu on the removal of Babatunde Irukera as Chief Executive/Vice-Chairman of FCCPC in accordance with Section 8(1)(b) & (2) of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission Act, 2018 as presented by the Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, APC, Ekiti Central.

Recall that President Tinubu had in January this year written the Senate, asking that it approve the disengagement of Mr Babatunde Irukera as the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission.

This was contained in a letter addressed to the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and read at plenary.

The letter read, “In accordance with the provisions of Section 8(2) of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), Act 2018. I hereby seek the kind confirmation of the Senate in respect of the disengagement from office of Babatunde Irukera as Executive Vice Chairman, Chief Executive Officer of the FCCPC with effect from January 8.
