Former Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Olakunle Oluomo, said he has filed a suit before the state High Court challenging his impeachment.

Olakunle broke his silence some days after his sudden impeachment as the house speaker.

The speaker who was impeached on Tuesday over various offences bordering on arrogance and highhandedness, among others, insisted that his impeachment did not follow due process, a reason he has approached the court.

Oluomo, who had been dragged to court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged financial misappropriation running to N2.5 billion was impeached by 18 lawmakers out of 26 member-assembly.

Reacting to allegations against him, Oluomo said he had dragged his colleagues before the court, insisting that his impeachment was illegal.

However, he admitted that he has not enjoyed the support of his colleagues since he was returned as speaker of the assembly for a second term.

“For your information, I have filed a suit in the Ogun State high court asking the court to determine whether a speaker can be removed through Gestapo or coup-like manner and the court said they should go and serve them which is right and come back on the 7th of February to defend our case.

“I am a believer in the rule of law, that’s why I went to court. I don’t mind the number of persons who signed just to follow due process. They served me a notice on Wednesday and I have up till tomorrow (Saturday) to reply but I have replied today.

“So, I was looking for peace and that is why I have gone to court to determine if they have the right to remove me the way they have done.?”
