Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Friday, described the Appeal Court judgment that annulled his election as a gross injustice to Kano voters, adding that they will approach the Supreme Court for redress.

Governor Yusuf, in his reaction to the ruling that sacked him and affirmed the position of the Tribunal which earlier favoured APC’s Gawuna as the elected Governor, stated that “the election petition tribunal that sacked him from office was unjust, then the Appeal Court also robbed Kano voters of their choice today.

“We have instructed our lawyers to appeal this ruling to the Supreme Court where we hope it would right the wrong done to Kano people,” he said.

Continuing, the Governor said, “We know that the people of Kano came out en masse to vote for us,” adding that “we were optimistic that the Supreme Court would return their stolen mandate.”

Governor Yusuf then accused the APC of being blind and desperate to hold on to the governorship seat without any concern for the choice of the people.

He said, “The APC only wants to continue its destruction and neglect of the lives and development of the Kano people.”

Yusuf however promised that his administration would not waver in continuing development projects it has started in areas of education, health, and human development.

On security issues, the Governor advised Kano residents to go about their normal activities as security personnel are on the ground to protect them.

Gawuna, in his reaction through a statement made available on Saturday in Kano, and titled; “The truth has prevailed, judgment is victory for everyone “

He stated that, “Praise be to Almighty Allah for ensuring our victory today at the Gubernatorial Election Court of Appeal.

“The affirmation of the truth by the appeal court will surely strengthen democracy. I wish to appreciate the court of appeal for its verdict which upheld our victory at the election petition tribunal court.

“The affirmation of the truth by the appeal court will surely strengthen democracy”. He added that “Both the judgements have reaffirmed that the judiciary is the last hope of the common man.

“I want to use the opportunity to commend the judges of both the election tribunal and the court of appeal for standing by the truth to ensure that justice prevailed.

“This is a victory for all the residents and citizens of the state, therefore I am seeking the support of everyone irrespective of party affiliation to join hands with me and my running-mate, Alh Murtala Sule Garo in the advancement of Kano.

“I have to thank our amiable leader, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Dr.Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the Deputy Senate President Sen.Barau Jibrin and the two ministers from Kano State for their support.

“My appreciation also goes to the hardworking State APC Chairman Alh Abdullahi Abbas, Party Executives, Members of the National and State Assemblies, Local Government Chairmen and Party stalwarts from ward to state level.

“I wish to commend all the Ulamahs, Business Community, Youths and Women Groups for their solidarity and prayers.

“Our mission is growth and development through improvement of the living standard of the residents and citizens of Kano State.

“I am calling on the residents and citizens of the state to remain calm and continue to be law abiding.”

Also, the National Chairman of APC and former governor of the state, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, in his reaction, expressed excitement over the victory of the party’s governorship candidate in Kano, at the Appellate Court, describing it as victory for Kano people.

According to Ganduje, “with Gawuna’s victory at the Appeal Court, there are better days ahead for Kano.”

He also expressed optimism that Gawuna will emerge victorious at the Supreme Court.

This was contained in a statement from the Chief Press Secretary to the national chairman of APC, Comrade Edwin Olofu, a copy of which made available on Saturday to press in Kano.

According to him, Gawuna’s administration would provide better opportunities for the masses and record more achievements than his eight years as governor of Kano state.

“I thank Allah for this important judgement. We have to thank the judiciary for providing good administration of justice despite all the distractions that took place since the beginning of the case.

“We have to thank the judiciary. There is no doubt this is a victory for democracy. It is a victory for APC and a victory for Kano State. This is an indication that democracy has come to stay in Nigeria. Democracy we can say is matured in Nigeria. We have to thank all those stakeholders, the political parties, even the NNPP that took us to the Appeal Court.

“For Kano State, this victory is for all of us. We are fully aware, we know what happens during the election; a lot of malpractices and we took the issue to the Tribunal and by the grace of God, we got a fair judgement in favour of our great party, APC.

“Now, the government in power, the NNPP, decided to go to the Court of Appeal and this morning by the power of God, the Court of Appeal affirmed the judgement of the lower court. And by so doing, our gubernatorial candidate, Dr. Nasiru Gawuna is the duly elected governor of Kano State.

“But in all, probably, they will go to the Supreme Court which is part of democracy. There is nothing wrong for them to go to the Supreme Court. We too, we are ready to meet them in Supreme Court. And Insha Allah, we will win at the Supreme Court as well.

“But we want to assure the people of Kano State that the good administration that was provided in my eight years with my deputy, Dr. Nasiru Gawuna and now, the governor-elect for Kano State will provide a similar, not even similar, I believe he will provide a better administration, more achievements will be recorded in Kano State because that is what we expect,” Ganduje said.
