CEOAFRICA.com gathered from Juba, the capital of South Sudan that the country has kicked-off polio vaccination campaign in Central and Eastern Equatorial, Jonglei, Unity and Upper Nile states.

A press release indicates that the campaign targets 1.4 million under-5 children, as a way of avoiding impending polio crises in the territory. Neighbouring countries have recorded new cases of polio recently.

However, the campaign, which supposed to have ended since last week, had been extended due to flooding and logistic constraints in some of the targeted areas.

South Sudan is yet to report any polio case since independence in 2011. The last from that area was in 2009 when they were still known as Sudan.
