The Enugu State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday asked the Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba to order the immediate arrest of Senator Ayogu Eze, who was one of the party’s governorship aspirants in the state, over the alleged forgery of the party’s December 8 governorship primary election result sheet.

In a petition dated December 17 and signed by the state Chairman of the party, Ikeje Asogwa, the PDP raised the alarm over the plot by the senator to truncate the party’s successful primary election in the state with forged documents.

Narrating the alleged criminal act committed by the aspirant, Asogwa said:  “The PDP primary election to elect a governorship standard bearer for Enugu State took place at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium Enugu on December 8.

“The party, from the national headquarters, appointed a five-man electoral committee to conduct the primaries for the election of the governorship candidate for Enugu State. The members of the panel were King Asara A. Asara (Chairman), Barrister Ukpai Ukairo (Secretary), Saratu Umar, Engr. Alamu Adeyemi and I as the state Chairman of the party.

“The members came with the official result sheets from the party headquarters, as well as the ballot papers and other materials required to conduct the primary election.  At the end of the electoral exercise, the members issued a result of the election wherein they returned Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as having won the election.

“Surprisingly, Eze, who was a candidate at the said primary election, has now uttered a result purporting same to be the result of the said primary election of December 8.  The said result was produced on a forged result sheet purporting same to be the result sheet of the PDP.”

Giving further details with attached alleged evidences, Asogwa added: “I hereby enclose the original result sheet of the party, which has the name of the party, the logo of the party, the address of the national Secretariat and the serial number of the result sheet issued out to the panel, the signatures of the National Chairman, the National Secretary, the National Organising Secretary, the returning officer and the Electoral Officer. I mark same as annexure I.

But the Ayogu Eze Governorship Campaign Organisation has reacted to an allegation by the PDP in Enugu State that its candidate forged the result of the December 8 governorship primary in Enugu State, describing the allegation as wild and contempt of the court.

In a statement, titled: ‘Who’s afraid of Ayogu Eze,’ the organisation insisted that its candidate is the duly elected candidate in the December 8, 2014 primary.

Saying that its candidate was elected by the authentic delegates elected on November 1, and validated by an Abuja High Court, the organisation wondered why the PDP in the state rushed to court on December 9, a day after the primary to stop its candidate from parading himself as the candidate.

“Why did they rush to court to stop our candidate if they truly believe the result of the election was forged?” the organisation asked in the statement signed by its Director of Legal Services, Mr. Kingsley Onyeke.

The organisation said the panel that conducted the kangaroo primary that Asogwa referred to in his statement admitted in the full glare of the press that it came with a forged delegates list.

“It is the likes of Asogwa and all the people involved in subverting the will of the people by forging a delegates list after the PDP in Enugu State had told the whole world it did not participate in the congress that brought the delegates that should be handed over to the police”, the statement said.

Describing the allegation by Asogwa, whom the organisation said is not the chairman of the PDP in Enugu State, as part of the desperate campaign to intimidate its candidate out of the 2015 governorship race in Enugu State, the statement said its candidate would never succumb to blackmail.

“Our candidate is determined to unfold his programme of physical transformation and spiritual rebirth for the people of Enugu State and no threat or blackmail will take him off that course,” the organisation said.

The organisation said it was refraining from going into details in its response since the matter under discussion is a subject of litigation at an Enugu State High Court as well as a Federal High Court in Abuja.

It described Asogwa’s misguided allegation as an affront on the judiciary, which it said is the only institution that can make a pronouncement on the matter as it stands now.
