The ex-president of South Africa, Jacob Zuma, on Saturday, slammed Judges for the excessive sentence given to him.
It was reported that Zuma, had just completed a 15- month jail term for contempt of Court.
He was jailed in July, 2021 for refusing to testify before a graft inquiry, but was released on medical parole two months later.
The ex-president during a press conference said; “Having reached the end of my unlawful incarceration, …I decided that the circumstances of my conviction and direct imprisonment should give us a chance to reflect.”
“This conviction is unlawful.”
“The fact is that the highest court in the land violated the law.”
“We need to make sure judges are not reduced to politicians,” he said warning that “if we don’t stand up and hold members of the judiciary accountable, we will be creating a judicial dictatorship in this country”.
Zuma’s sentence last year had caused riots that descended into looting and left more than 350 dead in the worst violence to hit the Country, since the advent of democracy in South Africa.
In September, he announced that he was ready to make a political comeback at the ruling African National Congress (ANC) party’s internal conference, which will be held in December, where the top seats will be contested.
Zuma is still facing separate corruption charges over arms deals dating back more than two decades.
