The Alaafin stool has been vacant since the transition of the 45th Alafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi in April.
Many Princes have shown interest in being the Next Alaafin and have been screened but not all were qualified. The Oyomesi has shortlisted only 10 contestants for the Throne of the Alaafin of Oyo
The Director of Media and Publicity to the Alaafin of Oyo, Bode Durojaiye in a statement signed by the Bashorun of Oyo, High-Chief Yussuf Akinade Ayoola Layinka on Friday revealed that the Oyomesi have concluded the interview process for the Aspirant for the Alaafin Stool and 10 contestant are shortlisted.
Durojaiye said the next process is the Ifa (Oracle) consultation and the members of the Oyomesi will meet to deliberate on it.
“Whoever emerges among the shortlisted aspirants will be the candidate and the next Alaafin of Oyo.
“The state government is not only aware but carried along in all our proceedings before, during and after the interview period. The state government is ably represented by the Chairperson of the Atiba Local Government and some officials of the council”.
