The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Lagos on Thursday discovered an illegal mining site.
The personnel were led by the Commandant, Eweka Okoro to the site located in the Ijede axis of Ikorodu, where the miners involved in illegal mining of soil from large hectares of land, where telecommunication masts and power lines are planted were found.
The corp found equipment used by the miners for their activities such as three caterpillars, among others.
Okoro also warned those engaging in illegal mining should desist as it can jeopardise public health and critical public assets.
“The Command will not rest on its oars to ensure that illegal mining sites are shut and protect pipelines, telecommunications infrastructure and other national assets.’’
Meanwhile, the NSCDC Commandant-General Ahmed Audi has directed State Commandants to protect Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) belonging to Federal, State, and Local Governments.
