President Muhammadu Buhari has approved increment in the Duty Tour Allowance of ministers, permanent secretaries and other civil servants.

This is coming in the wake of revenue scarcity in the country, where the nation has to borrow in order to service her debts.

The circular, originating from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, which has just been shared online, partly reads, “The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has approved the upward review of Duty Tour Allowances applicable to Permanent Secretary/Equivalent from N20,000 to N70,000 and to Minister/SGF/HCSF/Equivalent from N35,000 to N80,000. This approval takes effect from 1st september2022.”

The letter was dated 31st August, 2022 and has taken effect just a day after, 1st September, 2022.

Meanwhile, many social media users have continued to criticize the move, following the claims of the federal government that the nation is out of fund, which has forced thousands of undergraduates and postgraduates of Nigerian universities to stay at home for nearly seven months, as there is paucity of funds to meet the demands of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
