The British American Tobacco (BAT) workers have cried out over a delay in salary increments as they gave their organization a 72-hour ultimatum to do the needful.

Following the protest in Lagos on Monday, the workers put down their tools and stepped out of the organization's premises to lament their worries over delays in the increment of their salary.

During the protest, CEOAFRICA gathered that the workers lamented over inflation in the country and its effect on transportation and feeding among others.

“We are outside here protesting for salary increment. As we all know; things are very expensive now. Food and transportation is killing, yet our salary is never increased. Things therefore have to change by force”, the workers lamented.

Consequently, it was revealed to CEOAFRICA that one of the Operation officers of BAT who addressed the workers said that he was surprised at the massive protests, but has pleaded with the workers to give the organization till April ending.

He said “I have never experienced this kind of gathering ever since I resumed the office as an operation officer.

For those who are aware of my activities since I resumed office, they will confirm that I have been working on things to ameliorate the situation on ground.

I believe that we will definitely address the situation soon.

“I know what you want to hear; but I will tell you one thing; stopping the job is not the way out but on the other hand, we need to be concise and precise.

I just finished discussing with the General Manager on the matter but note my words; a way forward on your requests would have been proferred by the end of April,” the Operation Officer said.

Meanwhile, the workers disagreed with the Operation Officer, stating that April ending is way too far, emphasizing the fact that nothing will change their 72 hours warning ultimatum.
