Wednesday- 28th July, 2021: The Special Taskforce Unit of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria have on Wednesday alerted students and members of the public on new tactics used by bandits and their informants to kidnap members of the public for ransom.

Mallam Zubairu, head of the Taskforce unit, revealed this in a statement on Wednesday.

He disclosed that bandits have developed a new technique which they used to kidnap innocent citizens.

Zubairu said, “We have been informed about the latest kidnapping technique adopted by kidnappers in Kaduna State.”

“They (bandits) give out Sharon vehicles to some of their accomplices which are used to load passengers and deliver the innocent passengers directly to the kidnappers in bushes around our major highways.

“The reward is, if any driver delivers 2 trips of passengers to the kidnappers, the Sharon automatically belongs to him.”

Speaking further, he advised members of the public to always apply caution when travelling through the Kaduna-Zaria, Kaduna-Abuja and Kaduna-Kachia roads.

"Do not travel when it’s late (evening or night) especially if u are going through the Kachia road or going to Abuja, make sure you board from a designated or government-approved motor park”.

“Do not enter pick and drop vehicles, fill the passenger manifesto before you enter any car if it’s provided. If non-available, ask for one or drop from the vehicle.

“Try writing down or memorizing the registration number of any car you board (Sharon, Golf or Opel).

"Please do not make a trip when it’s not necessary." He added

Recall that many people have been kidnapped along Kaduna-Abuja road and those that were kidnapped, were forced to pay ransom or risk being killed.
