Monday, 14th June 2021: A security guard, Mallam Babangida, on Sunday lost his life after he fell from a bridge into a river in the Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The man was said to be working with one of the construction companies in the state.

The Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Babawale Afolabi, said the incident happened around 6am on Sunday.

Afolabi said his corpse was later retrieved after it was swept to the river bank.

He said, “Mallam Babangida of Tunga Rijawa village fell from the Moshe Bridge into the river and died. The incident happened at the early hours of Sunday.

“The deceased was a security guard at Turning Point Construction Company and while he was going home after closing from work as he was trying to cross the bridge, he fell and died.

“As a result of the heavy rainfall, the river wave pushed the ladder away and he fell in to the river. But his dead body was later found beside the river,” Afolabi added.
