Ahead of the African Women Championship( AWC) in Namibia, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has thrown a gauntlet at the Super Falcons, challenging them to surpass the record set by their sister team, Falconets at the recently concluded 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Canada.

NFF Technical Director, Emmanuel Ikpeme, who addressed Falcons after their goalless draw with A.I. Dikko International Soccer Academy at the practice pitch of the Abuja National Stadium advised that Coach Edwin Okon tutored ladies to raise the standard of their performance to reclaim the AWC title in Namibia.

Ikpeme, who showered encomium on the girls for holding their own against a male side, stated that as the senior women team, the onus lies on the team to surpass the standard set by Falconets in Canada.

“As you prepare for the AWC in Namibia, you must realise that you are going there to bring the cup back.

“What the Falconets started at the FIFA U-20, you must complete it by winning the cup. We believe you can do it if you raise your standard

“We want you to go to the World Cup as African Champions and we shall give you all the necessary support to excel in Namibia, so continue to work hard to achieve your target,” Ikpeme said.

Falcons are drawn in Group A alongside host, Namibia, Cote d’Ivoire and Zambia

The top three finishers in the AWC automatically qualify to represent Africa at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada.
