Boko Haram: NAOWA Donates Food Items, Clothes To Widows In Ondo Barrack

As part of its efforts to contribute to the living standard of widows of soldiers, particularly those who died during the on going insurgency, the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA) yesterday donated food and clothing items to 70 widows in the 32 Artillery Brigade, Army Barrack, Akure, the Ondo State Capital.

NAOWA is a non-profit and non-governmental organisation with the objectives to assist the poor and the needy and to raise the standard of living in barracks across the nation.

The association is normally headed by the wife of the Chief of Army’s Staff.

Some of the goods donated to widows in Akure barrack include, Bags of Rice, tubers of Yam, Groundnut Oil, Soup, Ankara among others.

Speaking with reporters shortly after distributing the items, the President of NAOWA, Mrs. Felly Minimah, who is also the wife of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Kenneth Minimah said her visit was part of the familiarization tour with the wife of soldiers in all barracks in the country.

Mrs. Minimah stated that it is the duty of their association to empower and assist widows and less privilege, who live in the barracks.

The wife of the army boss, who also used the occasion to inaugurate the newly constructed Vocational Centre, assured wives of the soldiers that the association would be up and doing to support them.
