Friday, 4th June 2021: Micro-blogging site, Twitter, says the suspension of its operations in Nigeria is “deeply concerning”.

Twitter’s Senior Policy Communications Manager for Europe, Middle East and Africa, Sarah Hart, stated this in an email response, according to The Cable.

“The announcement made by the Nigerian Government that they have suspended Twitter’s operations in Nigeria is deeply concerning.

“We’re investigating and will provide updates when we know more,” Hart was quoted as saying.

CEOAFRICA had earlier reported that Twitter deleted a post by the Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari.

Consequently, Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, announced the suspension of Twitter on Friday, citing the “persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence”.

However, CEOAFRICA’s checks showed that Twitter is still up in Nigeria as of the time of filing this report as users still have access to the platform. The minister’s statement was also silent on the time that the ban would be enforced.
