Factional president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Chris Giwa and his loyalists yesterday paid courtesy call on Sports Minister, Dr Tammy Danagogo at the minister’s Abuja office.

Danagogo, while welcoming Giwa and his team dismissed those struggling for the soul of Nigerian football as a bunch of insincere people.

According to the sports minister, his biggest worry is that he is deal- ing with men who are not sincere.

“Our greatest challenge in this whole crisis is that most people involved are not sincere. They are not gentlemen and most people are just looking at winning at all cost,” Danagogo said.

He stressed that the crisis would have ended by now if the stakehold- ers have respected the agreements reached before the August 26 congress, which ordinar- ily would not have been an elective congress.

Meanwhile, Giwa has disclosed that his ex- ecutive committee had established contact with world soccer governing body, FIFA, to secure its endorsement of his board.

He assured those nursing fears of FIFA failing to legitimise his tenure that the discus- sions he is having with Zurich would produce positive result. “Certainly, FIFA is   a major stakeholder in this issue and we have already started talking to them and we will con- tinue to talk to them. We are relating with them efficiently.”

He also spoke on the efforts to reconcile with other stakeholders, dis- closing that he will soon set up a committee, just as he added: “The Min- ister made it clear when he declared the congress  open that the day will mark the end to the crisis. I have also made it clear that we will do everything to reconcile with the aggrieved.

“I have discussed with my board members and we have started reach- ing out. Hopefully, we are going to set up a reconciliation commit- tee involving major stakeholders to bring all the warring factions into one house. We want to end such occurrence by putting a foundation on ground to ensure that there will not be any crisis in the next election,” he quipped.

Asked the implication of some of his members refusing to identify with him, he argued: “It is not true that some board members stayed away from us because we have not had a formal board meeting since our election. We were at the Glass House on a famil- iarisation tour.

“Let me also make it clear that most of the board members don’t stay in Abuja, including myself. However, I want to reveal to you that by he grace of God, we are going to have our inau- gural meeting by Friday or Monday and I want to assure you that you will see all the board members,” he noted.

On the Eagles quali- fier match next week and update about Keshi, Giwa said: “We are cer- tainly expecting Keshi to arrive the country by this weekend and we will go fully into
the preparation by next week and I’m optimistic we are going to have a good match.”
