The Oyo State Government yesterday cleared four patients suspected of contracting the dreaded Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).

     The Commissioner for Health and the state Epidemiologist, Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin and Dr Gbolahan Abass respectively told journalists yesterday that contrary to rumours milling around that some patients in state and private hospitals have contracted the disease, the four suspected patients who showed symptoms of the EVD have tested negative to the virus.

On suspecting the patients, the commissioner said their blood samples were taken and sent to the laboratory for confirmation.

According to the Commissioner,  four patients were treated in private and government hospitals in Iseyin, Ibadan, Igbo-Ora and Ogbomoso.

He said they all tested negative to the virus.

"The report of the latest suspect among the four patients came in this morning (yesterday) and it was negative. The patient was receiving treatment in Igbo-Ora, when he was suspected of having contracted the virus. As we speak, I can confirm to you that there is no single case of Ebola in Oyo State. We want to assure the public that there is no single case of Ebola in Oyo State." Dr Gbadegesin said.

The commissioner further disclosed that government has made adequate provision for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for health workers in the state. He added that government has been setting up Epidemic Response Units across the state, particularly in towns where patients were suspected of the virus.

"Anytime we have suspected cases,mew move there. PPE are on ground in all places with suspected cases," the epidemiologist said.

Dr Abass while also speaking urged members of the public to ignore rumours. He advised them to report any suspected case to the nearest hospital instead of spreading unfounded rumours about the EVD.
