The 3,000 members of the National Youth Service Corps in Delta State were posted to their respective places of primary assignment on Tuesday after completing a three-week orientation programme at their Issele-Uku camp.

The Delta State Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Hope Eghagha, who performed the official closing ceremonies at the camp urged the corps members to utilise their training in camp to prepare for self-employment.

Eghagha, who represented Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, said the corps members should purge themselves of negative notions of the people and settle down quickly to work in their host communities.

He said, “You have to assiduously learn to show understanding and adaptability as a way of justifying some of the reasons for the national service.

“Through the orientation course, you have been equipped with the leadership qualities of perseverance, endurance, discipline, selflessness, sacrifice and the ability to live amicably with others from different socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. I urge you to. Put into practice the various skills you have learnt and end. Up being self-employed after the service year.”

The Delta State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs. Olive. Etukudo, said the orientation programme was designed to include Man ‘O’ War drills, lectures, skills acquisition, discussion sessions, social and sporting activities.

She said for security reasons, martial arts training was incorporated into the programme to teach corps members basic self-defence tips.

The martial arts unit of the camp later on treated guests and corps members to a display.
