Senate Leader,  Victor Ndoma-Egba (SAN), and Former Chairman, Committee on Senate Services, Senator  Emmanuel Anosike, on Monday, commended the statesmanship action displayed by Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State, for congratulating Mr. Ayo Fayose,  who won the last governorship election in the state.

Ndoma-Egba, in a statement in Abuja, described Fayemi as “a rare breed politician” stressing that the man had “brought a new dimension into Nigerian politics by conceding victory to Fayose when it became clear that “the people have spoken.”

He said, “I particularly commend Governor Fayemi for his uncommon sportsmanship and statesmanship.”

The senate leader congratulated Fayose for his victory in the June 21 poll in the state and equally commended the Independent National Electoral Commission on a successful conduct of the poll.

He expressed the hope that the election “would be a test-run for the 2015 elections because this is a prelude to what we expect next year.”

Ndoma-Egba congratulated Fayose for his resilience and fortitude,  even as he praised the Ekiti people for their enthusiasm by coming out to speak clearly through the ballot.

Anosike told journalists in Abuja that by his action,  Fayemi had written his name in gold by exhibiting enough courage to concede to the wish of his people thereby saving the state from unnecessary bloodletting.

The senator, from Anambra North Senatorial District,  commended President Goodluck Jonathan, for creating a favourable atmosphere for the conduct of the poll which had so far,  been adjudged as free, fair and credible.

He said,  “Initially, there were a lot of insinuations that the President, and by extension,  the Peoples Democratic Party did not want an election in Ekiti state but at the end of the day, president did what he was supposed to have done by making sure that there was no violence, at all.

“I want to congratulate Fayemi for being a full time sportsman and this has shown the kind of person he is. This has also shown that he has love for his state. Others would have gone to protest the results thereby leading to loss of lives and property. “
