
PRESIDENT of the Senate, Senator David Mark and his Deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, have congratulated the governor-elect of Ekiti State, Peter Ayodele Fayose of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over his victory at Saturday’s governorship election.
Senator Mark also commended security operatives and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the smooth conduct of the election.
In a message signed by Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the President of the Senate, Mr. Kola Ologbindiyan, Senator Mark charged Fayose to justify the mandate of the people by embarking on projects and programmes that would have direct positive impacts on the citizens of the state.
To do so successfully, he urged the governor-elect to bring all interest groups on board and ensure that no section of the state would feel shortchanged or marginalised in the scheme of things.
According to Mark: “Your victory at the poll shows that the people of Ekiti State clearly endorsed your candidature. It is therefore your responsibility to reciprocate this mandate by serving them honestly and effectively.
“The people of Ekiti desire to see functional education system, effective health care facilities, infrastructural development as well as employment opportunities for the youths. All these, you can do with a clear focus and direction.”
Specifically, the Senate President enjoined Fayose to put necessary measures in place to ensure that the state remain united even as he counseled opponents of Fayose in the election to accept the results of the polls in good faith and congratulate him as good sportsmen.
In a message signed by his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Uche Anichukwu, Senator Ike Ekweremadu noted that it was an important win for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South West.
He also observed that the free and fair electoral processes that produced the winner was vital for the growth of democracy in the country.
He said: “I send hearty congratulations to Mr. Ayodele Fayose and our party men and women who worked hard for this important victory.
“I equally commend all the candidates, the good people of Ekiti State, the Independent National Electoral Commission, the civil society, security agencies, and other democratic structures and institutions who ensured that the election was peaceful, free, fair, and credible.”
Senator Ekweremadu also extolled the incumbent governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, for his efforts at developing Ekiti State for almost four years he held sway, but called on him, the rest of the candidates and good people of the state to join hands with the winner to move the state forward.
He also enjoined Mr. Fayose to justify the confidence reposed in him by his people by aggregating the bountiful human resources available for the speedy transformation of the state, irrespective of political leanings.
