Independent Marketers Branch of NUPENG Lagos Zonal council women Committee on Sensitization and Awareness programme on Cancer, held a sensitization program yesterday 12th of June 2014 at the IPMAN Building Odo-ona Ibadan Oyo state.
The chairperson, IMB of NUPENG Lagos Zonal Council Women committee, Comr. Mrs. Oyeleke Adejoke, during her welcoming speech, said, enough of women moving from kitchen to other chores, women should be conscious of their health saying "A woman's health is the nations’ wealth". "Let's make sure we participate by doing the test we have made available for everyone of us" she implored.
"We are all students of the barrier of women in leadership, such as unsettled homes of women leadership, challenging the leadership of men as laid down by God, suffice to say, in a society where men are confident of their worth, women are not only tolerated but highly valued" she said.
Furthermore, she stated that motherhood is indeed a tough 24hrs job that requires no qualification, it needs no pay, no days off, and sometimes not appreciated, yet resignation is impossible, women are naturally softly and dozily manufactured by God and indeed loyal in public offices. "Please involve and encourage them in great calling" she advised.
According to one of the guest speaker Dr. Mrs Bridget Kolade who spoke about how Cancer of the Cervix can be dealt with, advised women not to look at the cost of going for examination, because if early Cancer is detected, options of treatment can be surgical or radiotherapy, "Cancer is not manageable" she said. Cancer is called a terminal disease because it cannot be managed but can be prevented because when it starts it is almost impossible to stop.
She advice the government to make available this tests of cancer in market places and other places where women are highly concentrated at an affordable price, the simple di-test is the cheapest of all but should be repeated every 6months until she is 65-years and above, there is also a vaccine to cure it but it is only for Cervical cancer.
"Women who breast feed judiciously is Pro to Cancer of the breast but sometimes women who doesn't breast feed or have children is exposed to cancer of the breast" she said.
According to the Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) SP Olabisi Okwuobi-Ilobanafor during a lecture on health security- impact on women said our health is a complete physical state and all we should do is work on things that will guarantee our health which includes; healthy skin, not using chemicals/ bleaching because it affects One's health.
“Our mental health is so essential to our health in other not to become a second class citizen" she said. Our mental health includes sleeping well, eating and drinking right, exercising our bodies; self control and being free from stress.
Furthermore, she highlighted things that can affect our health which are, changing of sleep cycle, deficiency in certain nutrients, too much of alcohol amongst others. "Social health is the most supportive part of complete health; be your own idea of a good friend" she advised.
"Broading is the greatest enemy of good health, if you don't like something, change it, if you can't change it, change your attitude" she implored.
