A press release which was made available to CEOAFRICA this week states that:
JICA will support the Federal Ministry of Health to organize training for 100 health workers on 5S-KAIZEN-TQM.
5S-KAIZEN-TQM is a quality assurance tool used for the improvement of the quality of service. This principle, which originated from the manufacturing industry in Japan, has been adapted to improve the quality of health care services.
In 2012, JICA supported the Federal Ministry of Health in training about 100 health workers from seven (7) Public and Private Hospitals within FCT on the quality assurance tool. Those trainings have been yielding good result in the implementing facilities. This is evidenced by the recent award by the FCT Department of Human and Health services to Maitama District Hospital, which was among the hospitals trained in 2012, as the best hospital in the FCT for 2013. This improvement can be attributed to, among others, the implementation of 5S at the Maitama District Hospital.
This year JICA will support in training, on 5S-KAIZEN-TQM, 100 additional health workers from the following six (6) public hospitals within FCT: Maitama District Hospital, Kubwa General Hospital, Asokoro General Hospital, Wuse General Hospital, Gwarinpa General Hospital and Bwari General Hospital.
Lessons learnt from this training, if implemented by the participants’, will help to improve the quality of health care services in the hospitals.
Expected attendance at the training includes the Department of Family Health and Hospital services, Federal Ministry of Health, Chief Representative Japan International Cooperation Agency Nigeria office, FCT Department of Human and Health Services, Representative of DG NTA and FRCN.
