Funsho Williams - A politician who was murdered in Lagos
A Lagos High Court in Igbosere, on Friday admitted as evidence exhibits recovered from the scene of the murder of the late Funsho Williams.
Justice Ebenezer Adebajo admitted as evidence a rope, a knife, a mattress and a cushion which were exhibits presented before the court by CSP Shehu Sanni Wazo of the Nigerian Police forensic department.
Wazo presented the exhibits while being led in evidence before the court by the state’s prosecuting counsel, Mrs. E.I.Alakija.
In the absence of Mr. Bennett Agbo of the police forensic department on whom the court, during the previous sitting, had issued a witness of summon, Alakija had applied for the exhibits to be presented by Wazo.
Wazo also told the court that the blood-stained shirt allegedly belonging to the sixth defendant, Okponwasa Imariebie, could not be presented before the court owing to the short notice of summon.
Alakija applied to the court for the exhibits to be returned to the forensic laboratory to prevent contamination.
However the defence counsel, Mr. Agbara Okezie, in opposing the application argued that since the exhibits had been tendered before the court, same should be left in the custody of the court.
Adebajo however overruled Agbara’s objections and upheld for the exhibits to be returned to the police forensic department.
Further hearing in the case was adjourned to June 9, 2014.
Williams, a Lagos-based politician, was murdered on July 27, 2006 at his 34A, Corporation Drive, Dolphin Estate residence, Ikoyi, Lagos.
According to the testimony of the Lagos State Chief Forensic Pathologist, Prof. John Obafunwa, given before the court on April 16, 2014, Williams died of asphyxia resulting from “manual strangulation.”
Standing in trial before the court over Williams’ murder are Bulama Kolo, Musa Maina, David Cassidy, Tunani Sonani , Mustapha Kayode and Okponwasa Imariebie
