Fomer Commissioner of Environment , Barrister Lowo Obisesan
The immediate past Commissioner for Environment and Habitat in Oyo State, Barrister Lowo Obisesan has alleged threat to his life.
The former commissioner in a petition addressed to the Inspector General of Police Mohammed Abubakar and made available to newsmen in Ibadan on Thursday, alleged that the state chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Taofeek Oyerinde had been commissioned to take his life.
Obisesan who was dropped along his colleagues in September last year, was not included in the reconstituted executive and had decamped to Labour Party.
In the 24-paragraph petition, he alleged that he had been subjcted to harassment since he moved from the ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) to Labour Party.
But in a swift reaction, the NURTW boss described the allegation as wild, unfounded and laughable.
He said "I am well known as a transport union leader and not an assassin".He stressed that he leads a union that had been insulated from politics unlike in the past when the union's image was badly dented.
He called on the IGP to investigate the claim and bring anyone found culpable to justice, saying that the days when the union was linked with political assassination or violence had gone for good.
Obisesan claimed that the NURTW boss men were sent after him because his profile and popularity had been causing the authorities sleepless nights.
"On April 22, 2014, in a shocking manner, our client's night guard clearly identified two of the men of the union leader near the house at Eleyele, Ibadan. The two men had come to lay serious ambush against our client at the material time he will leave office," the petitioner said.
He added that but for his vigilance, he would have been hacked by the assailants who were said to have bolted away when an alarm was raised.
"The political tension in Oyo State is increasing and my opponents have sworn to make life unbearable for me.”It will be appreciated if police officers are formally assign for my protection, as the activities of these suspected assassins cannot be underestimated in view of the several unexplained killings in Nigeria," he added.
