USA-Police uncovered a stash house crammed with more than 100 suspected illegal immigrants from central and South America in what appeared to be a human smuggling ring in the US city of Houston Wednesday, local media reported.
Police found the crowd who literally sat on top of one another in a small single-family house south of Houston Wednesday, the Houston Chronicle reported.
Houston Police Department spokesman John Cannon told the media that officers were shocked when opening the door of the house and seeing “a large, large group of people.”
Cannon described a deplorable scene in which the immigrants were dressed only in undergarments and were sitting on filthy floor with human waste all over the place.
Police counted the crowd as 94 men, 16 women and two children. They were primarily from Guatemala, Mexico, Honduras and El Salvador, according to Cannon.
Houston police have handed the investigation over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The agency took the people in the home into custody and they will be questioned.
Authorities said five men related to the incident have been arrested.
