Both President Goodluck  Jonathan and the National Assembly have been urged not to succumb to intimidation from the western world by changing their minds on the anti-gay bill recently signed into law.

The President, Nigerian Baptist Convention (NBC), Rev Samson Ayokunle who made the in Ibadan on Monday, while addressing journalist at the NBC headquarters, Oke-Bola, Ibadan, on the state of the nation and to herald their 'Baptist Night of Wonders' coming up on the March 21st in Ibadan,"Why of course is gay relationship human right and polygamy is not?

"I am not saying this approving the practice of polygamy, but I am pointing the attention of the west to their double standard on issues and their hypocrisy. Not everything the west is doing is good, we have come to age to know this.

"Gay relationship is against our culture in Nigeria and is against our religious beliefs. We make bold to say here that whatever God has said 'NO' to, human right does not negate it. God is supreme," he said

Commending President Jonathan and the National Assembly for having the courage to speak out against same sex marriage and for signing the bill against the practice into law, the Baptist Convention President said Nigeria had set an example for other African countries who have already signed the bill against such acts into law.

Lamenting on the recent killing of 49 student in Federal Government College, Buni Yadi, Yobe State by Boko Haram, he condemned the senseless killings, while appealing to the insurgents to pursue peace rather than war in order to move the nation forward.

He also appealed to the federal government to do much more than it’s being done now by sending more security forces to the North to protect lives and properties. On the Baptist Convention’s stand on the proposed National Conference by the federal government, Ayokunle stated "We support anything that will add value to this country. It would not have been necessary if our lawmakers are up to the task and pass policies that will be favourable to the masses. We will do anything to make the conference a success."
