
The Oyo State Police Command on Monday paraded three suspected armed robbers who allegedly attacked a member of the state House of Assembly, Honourable Waliu Adekunle. They were to have attacked the lawmaker on the 6th of February, last year at his Oke Olola, Oyo town.
Parading the suspects at the Eleyele police headquarters, Ibadan, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Mohammed Indabawa, claimed that since the incident was reported by the lawmakers last year, the SARS operatives swung into action and on the 8th of January, they sighted the robbers at Oroki area, Oyo town and arrested them immediately.
He gave the suspects names as, Ismail Olusegun (26), Amodu Garba (20) and Oluwaseyi Oyeniran, adding that other members of the gang are still at large. Indabawa stated that efforts were still on to arrest other member of the gang and also to recover their arms.
Confessing to the crime, Olusegun stated that he was not aware that Honourable Adekunle was a lawmaker in the state before attacking him.
Also, paraded was a specialised trailer hijacker, Olatunbosun Ojotunde who was arrested with one cutlass stained with blood after he and his cohort double crossed and attacked a truck conveying Soya meal on the 6th of February with their Mazda car.
The Oyo CP explained that after the driver of the hijacked truck who was injured in the process alerted the police, the Skynet patrol team attached to Ijokodo axis sighted and intercepted the trucks, but the hoodlums abandoned the truck and took to their heels.
They were pursued and one of the suspects, Olatunbosun Ojotunde was arrested with a cutlass stained with blood.
On the 16th of February, he said the SARS operatives also recovered on Mazda car with Reg No: RSD 31 AA that the armed robbers used for the operation. "Upon further investigation, an ex-employee of the company of the hijacked truck, Wasiu Folarin was arrested for master-minding the incident and have also confessed to the crime," he added.
