NIGERIA (Osun)-The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control in Osun state is set to arrest and prosecute producers of unregistered packaged foods and drugs.
This was revealed yesterday by the Deputy Director of NAFDAC in the state, Mr. Oladipo Ajayi, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday in Osogbo.
He said that a producer, who allegedly relocated from Osogbo to Aramoko-Ekiti in Ekiti had been arrested for producing and selling unregistered sachet water.
He said that henceforth culprits would pay dearly for endangering the lives of the people with uncertified products.
“Anyone who registered to produce sachet water and went into the production of bottled water will also be arrested,” Ajayi said.
He reiterated the commitment of NAFDAC to protect the health of Nigerians by controlling packaged foods and drugs in the state.
The official said every packaged food, including garri, must be registered with NAFDAC to ensure it was safe for consumption and produced to specification.
He urged intending producers to visit NAFDAC office closer to them for specifications before manufacturing a product.
