NIGERIA (Oyo)-The outgoing General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Ahmed  Tijani Jibrin, has described the security of the nation as collective duty of both the military and the civilians in order to win the war against terrorism challenging the peace of the nation.

He said this today at the Odogbo Army Cantonment Ojoo, Ibadan, Oyo State while handing over to his Successor, Major General Emmanuel Abejirin.

Major General Ahmed Tijani Jibrin assumed the office as the GOC in charge of 8 State Divisions on February 2013.

The outgoing GOC said in his statement that the major focus of Nigerian Army is to ensure the security of lives and also guaranty safety of properties in the country.

‘’The Army has more reason to bring an end to the security problems affecting the whole country, although it is not peculiar to Nigeria alone but every nation. So, people needs to help the military in gathering needed information that will assist in solving the issue of terrorism affecting the country’’ he said.

While recalling some of his achievements, Major General Jibrin commended the soldiers for their dedication and commitment towards their duty and urged them to remain loyal to the Federal Government and to the nation at large.

He added that soldiers should be ready to render services when necessary as part of measures to curb illegal activities like terrorism, kidnapping, armed robberies, illegal bunkering and pipeline vandalism because joining army is not about “wearing uniform and parade the barrack”.

He stressed further that the same cooperation given to him while he was the GOC  2 Division should be extended to his successor, whom he described as a well experienced military officer with track record of excellence in his career.

While addressing the journalists shortly after he received the mantle of leadership, the incoming GOC, Major General Emmanuel Abejirin said his tenure will build on the good legacies of his predecessor who has done a thorough job while in office.

However, the Force Officer Commanding(FOC) of Nigerian Navy , Samuel Alade, who was at the occasion, said in his statement that the 8 State Divisions are lucky to have had Major General Jibrin as a leader while he described the relationship between Nigerian Army and Nigerian Navy as non-negotiable since they are partners in progress, adding that the officers should carry on with good legacies he (Maj. Gen Jibrin) has left behind.

In another development, the wife of the outgoing GOC, Mrs. Uzmah Jibrin commissioned Secretariat Complex for all the Nigerian Association of Wife of Army (NAOWA) as one of her numerous achievements during her tenure as wife of General Officer Commander in 2 Division.
